Add Women to the Presidential Debates

The presidential debate commission has announced the moderators of the final three debates of the 2008 election:
Jim Lehrer of PBS, Tom Brokaw of NBC, and Bob Schieffer of CBS.

All three moderators are men; there are no people of color.

The Women's Media Center is urging voters to insist that each moderator
have a partner reflecting the diversity of our country -- which is more than half women.

Let the commission know that you demand that they do better.
The stakes are too high.

Women & the Presidential Debates

The upcoming presidential debates are crucially important to us all. They frame the discussion that will determine who voters chose to lead our country for the next four years. It is unacceptable that only men will get to discuss the important issues: only male moderators have been chosen to ask questions of the male Presidential candidates. No women and no people of color will have a voice in the process. As a member of The Women's Media Center, I insist you reconsider your decision and add a woman and/or person of color, to create a representative team for these last Presidential debates. Too much is at stake to exclude more than half the population.
