Your Letter:

Welcome to your new position. The national priorities we set amidst the financial crisis say much about who we are as a people.

Impoverished countries feel the effects of the crisis most drastically. Debt relief provided to poor countries has been successful.  But too many nations are still burdened by crushing and unjust debts.

As you take office, there are many issues on my heart.  I urge you to support efforts to win expanded debt relief & IMF gold sales.  Too many poor countries like Kenya, Bangladesh, and Lesotho need debt relief to fight poverty amidst the food, fuel, and financial crises, but aren't eligible for the current program.  
As Secretary Treasury, you can use your power to urge the IMF to devote gold sales to fund debt relief to help the poorest recover.

Expanded debt relief and more responsible lending are cost effective ways to help the world’s poor in this time of economic crisis, and these measures speak to our values as a compassionate nation. Thank you for your leadership.
