Take action and tell your Senators and Representative to support legislative measures for responsible lending and borrowing. Such measures would benefit the world’s poorest and most vulnerable. The U.S. government can implement concrete principles of responsible lending and borrowing to promote democracy, combat corruption and ensure sustainable development for the Global South.

The U.S. is the world’s single largest financier of the developing world and the largest contributor to the IMF and the World Bank. Jubilee USA is moving the U.S. government because of its tremendous leverage in promoting responsible lending and borrowing practices. Because of the efforts of Jubilee USA, the U.S. government has endorsed the voluntary principles of responsible lending and borrowing that were developed by the United Nations. We need to ensure that future loans to low income countries are beneficial, contracted transparently, are repayable and are supported by the citizens of those countries. We are mobilizing our members across the country to urge Members of Congress to support legislative measures for responsible lending and borrowing.
