To the CEO's of Avent, Disney/First Years, Dr. Brown’s, Evenflo, Gerber, and Playtex: We call on you -- the largest manufacturers of baby bottles in the U.S. -- to strengthen your company’s public commitment to safe products by phasing out bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles. Bisphenol A is a synthetic sex hormone that mimics estrogen and interferes with a baby's healthy growth and development. A recent report, “Baby’s Toxic Bottle: Bisphenol A Leaching from Popular Brands of Baby Bottles,” found that your company sells baby bottles that leach the toxic chemical BPA when heated. These findings are of great concern as baby bottles are often heated, - very warm liquids are poured into bottles, and bottles are frequently washed in hot water. Credible laboratory studies demonstrate that bisphenol A causes damage to reproductive, neurological, and immune systems during critical stages of development, such as infancy and in the womb. Levels sufficient to cause harm in animals are less than the average levels reported in people living throughout the developed world. Many scientists now suggest similar damage may be occurring in the human population. We’re concerned that the amount leaching from heated bottles is within the range shown to cause harm in animal studies and is therefore a health concern for infants. We won’t put our babies at unnecessary risk. Safer BPA-free baby bottles are available today, and we intend to support these companies. We call on your company to take a leadership role in making safer children’s products by developing a plan to phase out BPA. It is our responsibility to stop the cycle of chemical dosing and medication fix that america is involved in. We create health problems, then prescribe a pill for the resulting health complications. Focus on the symptom and the actual cause will never be addressed.

The people designing and/or producing these items must not have children or do not care about the well-being of their own.

6015	August 16, 2009	Lori Quinn	Grapevine, TX	Through a trial and error to solve my newborn granddaughter's acid reflux (breast milk in a BPA-FREE plastic bottle), we discovered the solution was glass bottes! Even though they plastic bottles were BPA-Free, clearly there is still some chemical leaching, even when the bottle is not heated! We've since shared our story with other mothers and they, too, are discovering the same results as us. It is insane that we risk our children's health like this!!
