McCain's S. 3002 straight-out attacked dietary supplements with his Anti-Dietary Act of 2010. *** McCain’s S. 3002 bill calls for additional pre-market registration requirements for "any business or operation engaged in manufacturing, packaging, holding, distributing, labeling, or licensing a dietary supplement for consumption in the United States".
*** It supports the dangerous European approach of “permission please”, “positive list” concept that is drug based and already harming Europeans’ access to supplements: The bill language states: ‘‘is not included on the list of ‘Accepted Dietary Ingredients’, to be prepared, published, and maintained by the Secretary”.
We already have DSHEA! DSHEA is a comprehensive system of regualtion for dietary supplements. S. 3002 has sent a lightning rod through the
consumer community and will not be tolerated!
We already have laws against adulterated products! DSHEA prohibits putting adulterated or contaminated foods and dietary supplements on the market. DSHEA already has detailed and complex Good Manufacturing Standard requirements for all dietary supplements. Those regulations work DSHEA regulates foods and dietary supplements as nutrients and concerns itself with safety on all levels.
