To the Honorable Judge James Daniel & State Attorney Angela Corey,
On August 1, 2010, in an attempt to save her life, Marissa Alexander fired a shot in the air after being brutally beaten by her husband Rico Gray. Gray has a known history of domestic violence. Having beaten Marissa several times before. However, it is Marissa who is currently awaiting sentencing after being found guilty on three counts of aggravated assault. Marissa is now facing 20 years, due to Florida’s 10-20-Life law.
Judge Daniel & State Attorney Corey… I urge you to stand up and support Marissa Alexander, as well as other victims of domestic violence! Please release Marissa. A WOMAN'S BASIC RIGHT TO SAFETY SHOULD NOT BE ON TRIAL! I trust that you will not allow this grave injustice to continue.
Marissa needs JUSTICE, not JAIL. Marissa and her children need to be protected and supported by the State, not caged and separated.
