Help Protect Critical Lands Adjacent to Yellowstone National Park

Dear Supporter,

Right now, the Forest Service has the opportunity to acquire critical lands adjacent to Yellowstone National Park. The first phase of a two-year project to acquire almost 1,500 acres of patented mining claims is poised to move forward as soon as federal funds are secured.

Proposed mining was halted at this site near Cooke City in the 1990's; now, Congress has a chance to allocate funds for it's purchase.

The 725 acres of Cooke City Mining Claims available this year provide popular summer and winter recreation opportunities, are prized for fishing and hunting, and support grizzly bears, moose, wolves and other native wildlife. Senators Baucus and Tester and Congressman Rehberg need to hear from Montanans that acquiring these lands is a priority for state residents. Please take a moment to let Montana's congressional delegation know that you support spending $4 million in federal dollars to secure the first phase of the Cooke City Mining Claims project.

Send an email to Senators Baucus and Burns and Congressman Rehberg today!
