Dear Supporter,

The currently mined area certainly hasn't been an example of good land stewardship.

Act Today! to oppose any expansion of the mine.

The wild and pristine lands of southeast Idaho make up some of the most important and biologically diverse areas in the Greater Yellowstone region. These lands are highly valued by hunters, anglers, ranchers, and families seeking weekend get-a-ways.
Selenium released from the existing mine has so contaminated local aquifers and streams that the mine has been declared a Superfund site by the EPA. The J.R. Simplot Company, the mine's owner, has yet to clean up existing pollution from the mine. Despite that, the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management are poised to approve expansion of the Smoky Canyon phosphate mine in southeast Idaho.
The agencies are ready to give the company the green light to expand the mine and send even more toxic selenium into area aquifers and streams further threatening human health, water quality, and wildlife.
Please help us tell the Forest Service and Bureau of Land management NO! Phosphate mining does not belong in this special area of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem!
