Dear Supporter,
Our work to keep industrial development out of backcountry areas around Yellowstone National Park enjoyed a big victory with a recent court ruling. In September, U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Laporte reinstated the Forest Service’s 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which sought to keep road-building and other development out of millions of acres of Forest Service roadless areas nationwide.

Thanks to the work of GYC and other conservationists across the country, the 2001 protections are again the law of the land. With a few exceptions, backcountry areas around Yellowstone once again enjoy protection from bulldozers. At least for now: Appeals have been filed from several quarters and legal squabbling continues.
Greater Yellowstone Coalition will continue to work hand in hand with our members, allies, and elected officials to keep road-building and other industrial projects out of these backcountry areas. Learn more about the latest roadless news.
