SB 1161: AT&T’s Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

SB 1161 (Padilla) eliminates CPUC authority over phone companies. It would exempt AT&T, Verizon, and other providers of landline and wireless services from complying with long–standing basic consumer protections that California residents have come to rely on, including universal service requirements.

Other states that have passed similar, phone company-sponsored deregulation bills have quickly seen prices rise and services deteriorate.  Don’t let California be next!
