We have had the most incredible summer so far, including a very successful week-long Action Camp, trainings, actions and much more.
But summer's not over yet! Things are still heating up, and we've got lots more planned, including Mobilization for Climate Justice actions and trainings on the path to Copenhagen and beyond.
To help us keep the momentum going strong, we are looking for 1,000 new monthly donor members by the end of September! That means YOU! Monthly donations of $5, $10, $25 (or more) from members who care about the work have an incredible impact on the sustainability of our organization.
Actions speak louder than words - it's time to SHOW your LOVE. Now, check out some of our amazing work below, and then show us that you love this work and want to see it continue by becoming a member today!
ACTION CAMP A SUCCESS! Participants "localized this!" by turning training into action immediately following camp!
In July we packed up our tents, pots & pans, climbing ropes, and blockade chains, hopped planes, trains, and automobiles, and set to work on beautiful Vashon Island for the Localize This! Action Camp. We worked with the Backbone Campaign and local Vashon community to develop their campaign against the Glacier corporation which wants to destroy the island and local ecosystem. Many members of our Indigenous Peoples' Power Project joined local islanders and other participants from across the country for a week of hands-on skills-development learning how to do climb actions, water actions, blockades, and impactful creative visuals.
Just ten days later on July 28, training turned into ACTION. Two indigenous women who participated in the climbing track at camp (one of whom happens to be on the Ruckus board :) ), pulled off a fantastic banner action against the Royal Bank of Canada to Stop the Tar Sands, with the support of Ruckus and Rainforest Action Network. This action was a landmark for the IP3 program, and has raised new excitement and commitment from indigenous communities in Canada for more IP3 training camps and actions to stop the extraction project once and for all!
Keep your eyes peeled for other post-camp actions from The Mosquito Fleet folks who will be defending Vashon Island on land and sea against the Glacier gravel mining company!
