2008 has been an incredible year for Ruckus on every level! We trained over 7,000 people and supported them in pulling off remarkable direct actions that have resulted in tangible media and policy successes. Our youth leadership pipeline is helping to pump out the next generation of savvy action leaders.
There has been a tectonic shift this year in what ordinary people think is possible to accomplish politically. Throughout 2008, we have been training folks to design and execute actions that show the world what we want: creative direct actions that embody the change in the world that we want to be!
We want Indigenous control of Indigenous resources, housing rights for those under the poverty line, a Free Tibet, a Day Without Immigration Raids, Protected Voters, and so much more. We took actions this year to help make these things possible, and we felt the transformation happen in everyone we worked with.
We've worked with SFT for 10 years to clone a kind of Free Tibet Ruckus network of Action Trainers and Coordinators within SFT's international movement, to help make their campaign's success possible. That's the kind of long-term thinking and movement-building we believe is necessary to shift international opinion and culture. Now we are working with young Indigenous organizers to develop the Ruckus skill-set within the native youth movement.
In 2008, we averaged one training per week - our highest output ever - relying on our growing network of old-school Ruckatistas and new network members who've come through our Indigenous Peoples' Power Project and Not Your Soldier project.
As a cherry on top of our year, Republic Windows & Doors factory workers won their Economic Justice battle in Chicago after Ruckus network members supported their successful factory takeover.
Ruckus has been growing and reaching towards this moment. We are the ones we've been waiting for!
