Dear Ruckus Supporters,
We wanted to take this opportunity to inform you about a very important project we have undertaken. After years of conversations and deliberation about security's role within Ruckus, we decided to step up our commitment to developing and implementing a sound security plan starting in 2008. With publications like this one in Mother Jones http://www.motherjones.com
Ruckus has reason to believe that our security has possibly been breached in the past. Although we don't know anything for certain, we take this seriously, and therefore formal notifications have been sent to everyone whose vital information may have been compromised. However, we feel it is important to let all of you know about our security plans, not only because it impacts everyone who works with and supports us, but because we feel that it is important to all of us in our movement work.
We have been fortunate enough to be able to pull together individuals from the Ruckus network and our allies who are experienced and dedicated to security issues; these folks have been working with our staff as a security team to assess and address all our security needs. And since we are a training organization and believe that transferring knowledge and how to pass on knowledge is so important, this team plans to document our process in developing and implementing our security policies and processes well, so that others can use the information to help secure their own groups, networks, or their individual data. The team intends to develop materials that will help pass this information onto others so everyone doesn't need to start from scratch.
If you are interested in gaining security training in the future, or knowing more about this process, please contact Megan at megan@ruckus.org.
Much love,
The Ruckus Staff and Security Team
