Stand up for the People in Haiti and Egypt Now!

Support the will of the Haitian and Egyptian people by sending an email to President Obama urging him to stop sending financial support to the Mubarak government, and to allow Aristide to return and allow real democracy to begin in Haiti. Send a fax to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urging her to publicly support the will of the Egyptian and Haitian people by allowing them to express their sovereign will to choose their own governments.

Dear President Obama,

Today you stand at the crossroads of history and have the possibility of changing a long-standing model of U.S. support for repressive dictatorships in the Middle East and Latin America to a new a new model that respects the sovereign will of people to choose their own government.

As hundreds of thousands of Egyptians gather in the Tahrir Square demanding the departure of a dictator who has remained in power for 30 years, supported by enormous sums of U.S. aid, we ask that you, Mr. President, publicly express your support for the will of the Egyptian people, making it explicit that you will honor an Egyptian solution to their current crisis.

And, as Haiti stands poised to find solutions to its own democratic crisis, we ask that you open a new page that leaves behind U.S. support of the decades-long Duvalier dictatorship, U.S. complicity in the 2004 coup and subsequent militarization of Haiti, and call for new free, fair and inclusive presidential elections.
