From coast to coast, stirring inauguration speeches have been met with the demands of real people calling for a real and vital change: Inaugurate Democracy!
On January 19th, hundreds rallied at a Chevron refinery in Richmond, CA to expose Chevron’s outrageous election spending. The millions spent by Chevron on local, state, and national elections should in no way dwarf the very real needs and voices of actual voters.
Global Exchange brought Inaugurate Democracy signs and postcard petitions which were signed by hundreds of rally participants in Richmond (perhaps including you, so thank you!).
The next day, I hopped on a flight to Washington, DC to bring these petitions straight to the decision-makers who need to hear it most: our own elected officials.
A DC-based Common Cause organizer and I created a banner out of the signed petitions. Braving the cold was all worth it, because the voices of the hundreds who signed our petitions will be heard by Congress. If you haven’t signed our petition yet, we can still make sure it gets delivered to Congress on behalf of Speaker Pelosi.
Supporter, if you have received a response from your petition please let us know by replying to this email. We’ll keep you updated with any responses and some campaign updates as we move forward.
In addition to delivering our petitions, tens of thousands of #InaugurateDemocracy messages were circulating Facebook and Twitter during the Inauguration activities.
Your messages and posts helped to reach and empower thousands to discover and resist the undue influence of corporate money in politics. Our shared efforts are laying the groundwork to END the corrupting influence of money in politics by making the issue impossible for elected officials to ignore.
Let’s stay active together as we reclaim and protect our democracy!
