Happy Autumn! Summer months are traditionally a time for people to slow down and take a break, however for Global Exchange this summer was one of non-stop activity, and your support was with us every step of the way.
We want to celebrate this exciting summer with you! Find out how you can join us at our Open House next week.
Wall Street is Burning Democracy
The Elect Democracy campaign headed to Tampa, FL and Charlotte, NC to build people power outside the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and say that we are tired of paying for the greed of the 1%. Read about the heat on the streets and how we're spreading the word to extinguish money in politics.
Caravan for Peace with Justice and Dignity
Starting in San Diego, CA and ending up in Washington, D.C., the Caravan for Peace traveled for 5,760 miles to share the message of ending the drug war that has killed over 60,000 people in Mexico and continues to incarcerate people of color in the United States. Read about the journey and the connections made in all the communities.
Summer of S'mores
The National S’mores Day of Action on Labor Day wrapped up a summer of s’mores-making and petition-signing for Fair Trade activists across the country who urged Hershey's to end child labor and poverty in the cocoa fields. Our goal was 1,000 S'mores and signatures by Labor Day, thanks to all joined us and took action.
New Cuba Travel Regulations Set Back
New regulations by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regarding legal travel to Cuba were released in July that contain a number of new guidelines and directives for organizations that are licensed to provide travel to Cuba, including Global Exchange. Please feel welcome to contact us should you have questions, since we do retain our authorization as a Travel Service Provider to Cuba and can arrange travel for travelers under the General License or under a People-to-People license.
Missing our summer interns
Every summer, we get a great batch of interns that not only liven up our office, but also give great energy and support to our campaigns and the inner workings of the organization. Thank you to every single one of our interns that came through our office (and traveled on the road with us) this summer! Read about Community Rights intern Megan Devlin's experience.
