The Fight Against Fracking

“Fracking” (hydraulic fracturing) is a process of natural gas drilling that is causing communities across the US (and the world) to become increasingly concerned about the safety of their land, water, and health.

Fracking poisons water supplies and contributes to earthquakes. We help California communities assert their right to BAN fracking at the local level by passing laws that elevate citizens' rights to decide if harmful activities (like fracking) happen where they live – above corporate and state interests.

The path for these cutting-edge new laws has already been paved by residents in places like Pittsburgh, PA, where the city passed a rights-based law banning fracking in 2010.

And it’s not just us organizing around fracking. On September 22nd there will be a GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION against fracking organized by Food & Water Watch. We will be blogging about the day as well as launching a video that we are creating about fracking and how the real issue is about community rights – not just regulations. Join Us Next Month For a Rights of Nature training in Richmond, CA

Next Month, September 7th – 8th Global Exchange is partnering with the Women’s Earth and Climate Caucus (WECC) to host a Rights of Nature training and Rio+20 report-back in Richmond, CA. Global Exchange’s Shannon Biggs and Osprey Orielle-Lake of WECC will lead the training; both are members of the Global Alliance for Rights of Nature International Advocacy group. Cost to register is $50 and includes all materials. Find out more and how to register.
