Use this page to send a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding real justice for José Antonio Elena Rodríguez, Ramsés Barrón Torres, and all the other victims of Border Patrol's excessive use of force. Subject: Your Letter: Please take action to hold Border Patrol agents accountable for the recent string of shooting deaths, including in Nogales, where two local kids, 17-year-old Ramsés Barrón Torres and 16-year-old José Antonio Elena Rodríguez, were shot to death 21 months apart by Border Patrol agents firing into Mexico. Law enforcement agents should not be above the law---rather, we have a duty to ensure that they are operating fairly and humanely and face consequences when they do not. In each case, the boys were unarmed. New evidence demonstrates that José Antonio was not involved in rock throwing against agents, and yet he was shot as many as 13 times, all but once in the back, while walking along the street below a 25-foot embankment topped by an 18-foot border fence with only 3.5 inch gaps between the posts. Non-lethal methods were not tried by BP prior to the use of lethal force. Both families continue to suffer without any answers or action by the U.S. government. I believe that these killings, and 16 others in the last two years, demand concerted action by the Department of Justice. We call for: 1. Immediate suspension of active duty of the officer(s) who shot José Antonio Elena Rodriguez. 2. Criminal charges for unlawful killing against the officers involved. 3. Release of the identities of the officers involved, as is the family’s and the public's right. 4. Release of the surveillance video of José Antonio's killing to the family and their lawyer. 5.
