Protect the Bighorn Basin from irresponsible drilling

Tell the BLM to learn from its disastrous Jonah Field policy:
thoroughly consider the environmental impacts of drilling

Take Action!

Tell the BLM Bighorn Basin must be protected from irresponsible gas drilling.

Expanded drilling threatens public health and the environment
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is beginning to revise land use plans for Wyoming's Bighorn Basin -- east of Yellowstone National Park.

Expanded oil and gas drilling in the Bighorn Basin would endanger --

  • air and water quality,
  • recreational lands,
  • protections for fish and wildlife, and
  • the public health.

Bighorn Basin is a crucial area for big game in the winter, like elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep. It is also the only expanding sage grouse population in all of Wyoming.

BLM shouldn't rush -- it need learn from its mistakes with the Jonah Field
The comment period for the for resource management plan (RMP) closes November 17th, only three days after the last of the BLM's public scoping meetings. Three days is not enough to comb through the complex proposals and issues. This is too important a topic to rush through without the proper considerations from both citizens and the BLM.

The Jonah Field has already been turned into an industrial wasteland. we must not allow the same fate for Bighorn Basin.

TAKE ACTION
Tell the BLM the Big Horn Basin needs a longer public comment period, as well as responsible gas drilling with environmental and common sense protections. We need to make sure that gas drilling is done right to protect our health and environment.
