Call Macy’s and ask them to support the Golden Rules!

8 of the top 10 jewelry retailers (and more than 80 retailers total) have signed the No Dirty Gold campaign's Golden Rules for Responsible Metals Sourcing. That's key to cleaning up dirty gold because gold jewelry demand annually accounts for more than 80% of newly mined gold.

Macy's is one of the last major holdouts not to sign the Golden Rules.

Let’s crank up the pressure on Macy’s. Today we are flooding Macy’s phone lines. Think of it as caroling against dirty gold.

We’re asking for just a fews minutes of your day to call Macy’s and ask them to sign the “Golden Rules” for responsible metals sourcing. We want to call two representatives at Macy’s - but if you can only make one call, that’s ok!

The people to call:

Jim Sluzewski, Senior Vice President, Corp. Communications & External Affairs 513-579-7764

Beth Charlton, Issue Mngmnt/Special Projects Director, Corp. Communications, 513-562-6928

Don't know what to say? Here are some suggestions:

Hi, I'm calling to urge Terry Lundgren (CEO) and Macy’s to sign on to the No Dirty Gold campaign. I want to know that Macy’s is doing its part to ensure that the gold it sells is not tainted with human rights abuses or pollution. Please sign on to the Golden Rules. Your customers deserve better. Thank you.

or

Hi, I'm calling to ask if you can connect me to someone who can explain why Macy’s is lagging behind signing on to the No Dirty Gold campaign. Over 80 jewelers have signed. Now I want Macy’s join them and support human rights, fair labor, and environmental protection by signing on to the Golden Rules. Will you?

or

Hi, I'm calling because I am a Macy’s shopper. Please sign Earthworks' Golden Rules so when I return to Macy’s, I know I'm shopping at a company that cares about people and the environment.

If you don't get an answer right away, simply ask to leave a message and request a call back.

After your call, and this is important, please use the form at right, or post on our Facebook Page, and tell me how it went. How did Macy’s answer your questions? It's important for us to keep track of Macy's response and the impact that their customers' calls are having.

Thanks,
Nick Magel, No Dirty Gold campaign coordinator
