Carpet Product Stewardship Act: Support AB 2398 (J. Perez)

Carpet is a product that consumes significant California landfill space. Recycling carpet results in significant energy and greenhouse gas reduction. Despite the benefits of recycling, carpet recycling rate in California has dropped from 4.9 percent in 2007 to 4.3 percent in 2008.

AB 2398 would require carpet manufacturers to design, fund and operate a program to properly manage the carpet they sell in California. This measure would significantly reduce the environmental impacts of carpet, as well as reduce volume to landfills and create jobs in recycling.
