Victory! Kansas Protects Consumers from rBGH

Alert Update (April 23, 2009) - Victory in Kansas-- Gov. Sebelius Vetoes rbGH Labeling Bill

ARCHIVED ALERT - Kansas is currently considering labelling rules that would deny dairies from labeling their products as free of recombinant bovine growth hormone or rBGH. rBGH is a genetically engineered variant of the natural growth hormone produced by cows. Although rBGH is banned in virtually all developed countries, including the European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, the controversial drug remains legal in the U.S.

The proposed labeling rules:

1.    Make it illegal to tell the truth
2.    Require a health claim that’s false
3.    Pose an economic hardship on dairies
4.    Could take away consumers’ right to know what’s in their food

Take action today! Send an email to Governor Sebelius and urge her rescind or change the rules proposed by the Kansas Department of Agriculture (K.A.R. 4-7-723) that would restrict labeling of dairy products free of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH or rBST).
