No New Dirty Coal for South Carolina

South Carolina already has 12 dirty coal plants, and now Santee Cooper wants to build another one! They are proposing building another coal plant in Kingsburg. Santee Cooper claims that this would be a "clean" coal plant, but in reality it will just be another dirty coal plant. The plant would emit 8.7 million tons of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming; 3,500 tons of nitrous oxide, which affects the ozone; 7,500 tons of sulfur dioxide; 900 tons particulate matter, which cause lung damage when inhaled; and over 100 pounds of toxic mercury each year for the next 50 years.

Please write to the Governor and State House and State Senate and let them know that the people of South Carolina do not want this coal plant, and instead want the state to invest in exploring and creating alternative energy sources so that we can break our reliance on dirty coal.
