Hold DC Accountable for Ensuring Citizen Participation in the Selling of Public Property!

Public property is a limited and valuable public asset meant to serve public needs. For far too long the city has disposed of public property to private developers and failed to use our public property to serve the many needs of our residents like recreation, job training, affordable housing and more.

Enough is enough! We can't wait any longer. Let's fix DC law and save public property. Urge your city council members to work for a hearing on Bill 17-0527 within the next month. Public property is for public use, not private profit!

As a DC tax payer, I want to insure that the process of selling or disposing of public property, owned by the city, is conducted in a transparent and community-input driven manner.  It is important that the city consider the community's needs and how those might be met through the use of unused public property before properties are sold or given to developers.

With the high rates of poverty and crime in our city, it is critical that community centers, education and emergency shelters for families be considered before property is sold to developers. I am alarmed at the rate of disposal and the non-transparent process currently in place.  It is especially alarming as the City Council does not appear to be adhering to its own laws in this matter as outlined in Title 10 of DC Code.

I am respectfully requesting that you work for hearings on Bill 17-0527, which proposes changes to Title 10 of DC Code.   As a member of City Council it is your duty to represent of all DC residents. Please represent us by supporting Bill 17-0527.
