Remember Rachel Corrie - Call for an End to the Siege of Gaza

Seven years ago, Rachel Corrie was crushed to death by a Caterpillar bulldozer driven by an Israeli soldier while trying to protect a Palestinian doctor's home from demolition.

Now, Rachel's family is finally getting their day in court. Rachel's parents and sister are currently in Haifa prosecuting a civil suit against the State of Israel for Rachel's unlawful death. You can help support Rachel's family at this crucial time by calling the White House and demanding that the U.S. break the blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Dear President Obama,

Seven years ago, a 23-year-old student from Olympia, Washington, was killed when an Israeli soldier ran her over with a Caterpillar bulldozer.  That student’s name is Rachel Corrie, and she was part of a group of nonviolent international peace activists who were trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian doctor’s home in the Gaza Strip.

Today, Rachel’s family is still fighting for justice and accountability for her death, and they have also taken up the cause for which Rachel gave her life.  Rachel’s parents and sister are currently in Haifa, Israel, pursuing civil action against the State of Israel, and they have asked us to keep Rachel’s memory alive by sending you this email.  At the request of the Corrie family, I am asking you to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Rachel was relentless in her efforts to bring peace and freedom to the Palestinian people of the Gaza Strip, and she ultimately gave her life for this cause.  Now, we are asking you to honor Rachel’s legacy by sending Special Envoy George Mitchell to visit the Gaza Strip, and breaking Israel’s blockade by providing immediate humanitarian aid and construction materials to the people of Gaza.

The Corries' Congressional Representative, Brian Baird, has already set forth a proposal for the U.S. to break the blockade, in much the same manner that we circumvented the Berlin Blockade.  I encourage you to meet with Congressman Baird to further discuss this possibility.
