Boston Misses the Bus on Alcohol Advertising

MBTA trains and buses routinely carry beer and liqour ads even though the connection between youth exposure to alcohol ads and underage drinking is well documented. A new national report shows that Boston is one of only two major public transit systems that explicitly allow alcohol ads.

The 25,000 Boston-area youth who take the bus and subway every day are inundated with alcohol ads on MBTA property.  Since January 2005, the Massachusetts Banding Together Against Alcohol-Advertising Colloborative has  urged the MBTA to change its policy on alcohol advertising, but the agency has refused, claiming it relies on the money generated by theses ads. Alcohol advertising accounts for only 0.1% percent of MBTA's total revenue

Please take a moment to tell the MBTA to change its advertising policy and stop taking alcohol ads.
