I work for WITNESS, an organization that promotes the use of video and online technologies as an advocacy tool in the fight against human rights abuses. For our spring fundraising campaign, WITNESS is paying tribute to courageous women around the world who are fighting for change.
The goal is to raise $30,000 by June 5th. My goal is to raise $500 and I hope you can help.
The funds raised will support our work with human rights groups around the world like Sisters Arab Voices and the Research Advocacy Unit. Watch the video on the left panel of this page for more.
Thanks to a generous challenge grant from the J.A. and H.G. Woodruff Jr. Charitable Trust and a matching grant by the WITNESS Board, every dollar raised will be tripled! Anything you can do is very much appreciated even if it is passing on the video to your friends.
“Hurts Like Brand New Shoes?” you ask. It is a phrase in Sade’s song Pearls- a great song. I cannot stop humming it when I think of this campaign. I think it illustrates in a very simple but powerful way the challenges women face every day and, I think more importantly, our strength, grace and perseverance through it all. Sade uses words, WITNESS uses video but the message is the same – women are fundamental – fundamental in achieving lasting change that impacts the lives of their children and grandchildren, their communities and the world around us.
