Opportunity to Protect Constitutional Rights

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED NOW TO

RESTORE THE CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOMS ON WHICH

HEALTH FREEDOM RESTS

Health freedoms are not specifically guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States but, in fact, rest in the guarantee of fundamental rights in that document.  Those rights have been seriously eroded by recent Executive Orders and legislation passed by Congress (including the Patriot Act I and II, the civilian surveillance acts and others).  Executive Orders have, in essence, removed the protection of Habeas Corpus (literally, "who has the body", a principle of common law which, along with other related safeguards in the legal system protects you from just being "disappeared" by the government .)  You must have legal representation, the right to confront your accusers, know the charges against you, be charged and tried in a timely manner, etc.  You must be tried by a jury of your peers, not before a secret Military Tribunal and your rights cannot be taken from you.  All that has been radically altered by the current administration and government.

If we act now, and in large enough numbers, we can do a great deal to reverse those dangerous errors and erosions of the foundation of our way of life: the Constitutional guarantees that protect us from an intrusive, paranoid or intolerant government.

Congress has before it several bills which would correct some of these very serious assaults on our freedoms so it is vitally important that you communicate to Congress that these corrections matter very much to you, in deed.

At a time when our right to access natural medicine and control what happens to our own bodies, the basic rights on which this autonomy rests are deeply threatened and must be protected by each and every one of us.  For that reason, we urge you:

1. Urge your Senators to support the Habeas Corpus Restoration Act of 2007, S. 185, a bill which restores our Constitutionally assured right of Habeas Corpus and cancels the unconstitutional Military Commission Procedures and Actions which could judge citizens in secret without legal representation or time limits.

2. Urge your Senators to widen the impact of  S. 185 and introduce sister legislation to HR. 2835, the American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, H.R. 3835 which not only protects Habeas Corpus but also forbids the use of information gained by torture as evidence in court cases, challenges the legality of Presidential Signing Statements, protects journalists from charges of espionage when they are doing their job, forbids kidnapping, then sending people to foreign countries to be tortured and detained and other horrendous abuses of constitutional rights now being carried out.

3. Urge your Representatives to co-sponsor and vote for The American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, H.R. 3835 to restore Constitutional rights to the US.

The freedom from government-run "disappearings", torture, kidnapping, abuse, torture, secret tribunals and other heinous abuses of power are not part of the American way of life.  In fact, they signal a slide into governmental opression and a reign of terror which the Constitution of the United States was created to protect against.  Health freedoms rest squarely in Constitutional protections here in the United States and we must all act now to assure those protections before even the protest becomes an indication of thought crimes which would subject us to detention, torture, secret tribunals and everything else which these bills seek to protect us from.
