IF YOU BURY THE GOLDSTONE REPORT, YOU BURY HOPE FOR JUSTICE! NO ON H RES 867
Send your own letter to your Congressional Representative to demand that they do not support H Res 867, a resolution calling on the President and the Secretary of State to oppose unequivocally any endorsement or further consideration of the "Report of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict". Included in the sample letter below is Judge Goldstone's OWN RESPONSE to the resolution where he exposes factual errors and blatant lies contained in the resolution--we cannot assume all of our Representatives received this information!
When the bomb dust began to settle over Gaza in January 2009, the international community saw the results of Israel’s 22-day disproportionate and brutal assault on the population – 1,417 Palestinians and 15 Israelis were dead; 5,303 Palestinians and 503 Israelis were wounded. In April, 2009, a UN fact-finding mission on the Gaza conflict was established by the UN Human Rights Council to investigate human rights abuses and violations of international law alleged to have occurred before, during, and after Israel's December 2008-January 2009 attack on occupied Gaza. On September 15, 2009, the Mission on the Gaza Conflict submitted its 575-page reportto the UN Human Rights Council. Read the US Campaign'sone sheet FAQ on the report here.
Last week in a political move of the most cynical kind, Representatives Berman (D-CA) and Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), leadership of the U.S. House Foreign Relations Committee, introduced H Res 867, a bill that reads as though it were drafted by AIPAC, which it might well have been. H Res 867 is calling on the President and the Secretary of State to oppose unequivocally any endorsement or further consideration of the "Report of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict" in multilateral fora.
Thankfully, Judge Goldstone has sent a detailed response, which exposes in detail the serious factual errors, mischaracterizations and blatant lies contained in the resolution. It is doubtful that the co-sponsors have even read the report or Goldstone's letter, but the bill has been scheduled for a floor vote this Tuesday, in an attempt to avoid any chance of debate or thoughtful decision. Representatives who are on the fence are making up their minds NOW, so your phone call is crucial!
Please use our online action tool below to send a note to your Representatives to demand that they not endorse H Res 867 which buries any possibility of discussion around the Goldstone Report, thus ensuring NO accountability for the violations of human rights and international law.
