Dear Business Owner, 
 
As you know, Berkeley is a city committed to peace. From the Vietnam War to the occupation of Iraq, Berkeley has been in the forefront of seeking an end to war. Our City Municipal Code states: “It is a fundamental value of the Berkeley community that we must seek to resolve international disputes through collective international diplomacy and without war." 
 
To show support for Berkeley’s values as a City for Peace, we are forming a new association called Berkeley Businesses for Peace and are requesting that you join. There is no fee for membership.
 
Membership benefits include:
 
•	Listing in a new national website we are developing called www.businessesforpeace.org that will encourage people to support these all peace-loving establishments
 
•	Participation in special Buy Berkeley days
 
•	A lovely window decal for identification 
 
•	Networking opportunities with other like-minded businesses and community groups
 
•	Participation in the Summer of Hope festival that will take place in Berkeley this July
 
With national attacks on Berkeley, including pro-war forces calling for a boycott of our city, this is a particularly important time for our community to come together and reaffirm our values as a City for Peace.
