BURY THE REPORT, YOU BURY HOPE FOR JUSTICE: SUSAN RICE, DON'T SANDBAG JUSTICE!

Send your own letter to Susan Rice, US Ambassador to the UN, to demand that the US endorse and support
the recommendations of the “Goldstone Report”

When the bomb dust began to settle over Gaza in January 2009, the international community saw the results of Israel’s 22-day disproportionate and brutal assault on the population – 1,417 Palestinians and 15 Israelis were dead; 5,303 Palestinians and 503 Israelis were wounded. In April, 2009, a UN fact-finding mission on the Gaza conflict was established by the UN Human Rights Council to investigate human rights abuses and violations of international law alleged to have occurred before, during, and after Israel's December 2008-January 2009 attack on occupied Gaza. On September 15, 2009, the Mission on the Gaza Conflict submitted its 575-page report to the UN Human Rights Council. Read the US Campaign's one sheet FAQ on the report here.

The high-level Mission - headed by Justice Richard Goldstone, former member of the South African Constitutional Court, former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda and current trustee of Hebrew University - was an even-handed examination of human rights violations and breaches of international law committed by all parties to the conflict. The report documents evidence of grave “violations of international human rights and humanitarian law and possible war crimes and crimes against humanity” committed by Israel, Hamas, and the Palestinian Authority.

UN Ambassador Susan Rice has called the report “unbalanced, one-sided, and basically unacceptable” and the Obama administration is under a lot of pressure to keep it under wraps. It’s up to us to make sure that the report receives the attention and action it deserves.

Please use our online action tool below to send a note to Ambassador Susan Rice to demand that the US endorse and support the recommendations made in the Goldstone Report, thus ensuring accountability for the violations of human rights and international law.
