Protecting BP is Simply Wrong!

A Senate bill, the Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act, would have spiked the maximum liability for oil companies from a pitiful $75 million to $10 billion—making sure that BP paid for this man-made catastrophe. Remember, this company reported a profit of $5.5 billion in just the last three months! But unbelievably, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) opposed the bill and blocked it from even coming to a vote. Please contact her and Senator Inhoff and tell them to stop protecting BP and instead protect the fishermen, the coastal residents and the wildlife.

Dear Senator Murkowski & Senator Inhoff ,
 
I am heartbroken by the BP oil disaster—the loss of lives, the loss of livelihoods, the loss of wildlife. I was appalled to learn that there is a $75 million cap on BP’s liability. For a company with $5.5 billion in profits in just three months, this is chump change. Although BP says it will spend way more than this cap to help the victims, we should not count of corporate goodwill, especially from a company that has committed so many crimes in the past. 
 
I support the Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act, S3305 http://www.thomas.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:S.3305, which would raise the maximum liability for oil companies from $75 million to $10 billion. I was appalled to learn that you blocked a vote on this act. Your action puts you on the side of Big Oil. Please stop protecting BP and instead protect the fishermen, the coastal residents and the wildlife. Please allow a vote on S3305 to go forward, and vote in favor. Corporations must pay for the disasters they cause.
