A PETITION TO PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR NUCLEAR WEAPONS ABOLITION

Be part of the growing international campaign to abolish nuclear weapons! Your signature will be among millions collected on this and similar international petitions presented at the May 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference at the United Nations in New York. This U.S. petition will also be delivered to President Obama:

One nuclear weapon exploded in one city -- be it New York or Moscow, Islamabad or Mumbai, Tokyo or Tel Aviv, Paris or Prague -- could kill hundreds of thousands of people. And no matter where it happens, there is no end to what the consequences might be -- for our global safety, our security, our society, our economy, to our ultimate survival.
-- President Barack Obama, Prague, April 5, 2009

Click here for resources from UFPJ Member Groups giving context for the petition, the campaign for the abolition of nuclear weapons, and Obama administration policies. They reflect the mission of the UFPJ Working Group on Nuclear Disarmament/Redefining Security: Nuclear disarmament should serve as the leading edge of a global trend towards demilitarization and redirection of resources to meet human needs and restore the environment. We strongly urge you to check out these resources and share them -- and the petition -- with others. For additional action items, click here.

We also have a downloadable paper version of the petition that we urge you to circulate: you can return signed forms to UFPJ or a participating local organization.

And make sure to check out the list of participating groups associated with this petition drive. They're doing very important work around nuclear disarmament, and it is worthwhile to check out each group's respective website to link up with their activities.
