If you are not in the US: We are sorry, but the system below will not work for you. Our database is set up to direct people to newspapers in the US based on their US zip codes. We recommend that you send a letter to the editor to the local paper in the town you live in. You can go here for suggested text.

Step 1 - Select a Recipient

Letter to the Editor

The Letter to the Editor Section is one of the most widely read sections of the newspaper and can reach a large audience. It allows community members to comment on the way issues are being addressed in the media and to influence the topics the local paper may choose to cover. Elected officials often monitor this section of the newspaper and take notice of constituents' opinions.

We've made it easy for you to contact your local newspaper with your views, but editors want to hear from you in your own words.

  • I am writing to encourage you to cover the recent drama taking place in Israel right now. Human rights workers-- including Nobel peace prize laureate Mairead Maguire, former U.S. Congresswoman, Cynthia McKinney--sit in prison because they tried to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza.

  • Viva Palestina, another organization dedicated to bringing relief to Gaza, will be leading a convoy of humanitarian aid by land, through Gaza's border with Egypt, starting this Fourth of July weekend. It is not clear whether they will be let in.

  • Israel captured the 'Spirit of Humanity' in international waters, where it had no right to commandeer and board the boat. Its purpose – to block the delivery of humanitarian aid – was unlawful under international law. It seized the boat, its cargo, and the crew’s cell phones, and it has imprisoned the crew in Israel. Although they entered Israel against their will, they have been unofficially informed that they will be charged with entering Israel illegally

  • On board were Nobel peace prize laureate Mairead Maguire, former U.S. Congresswoman, Cynthia McKinney, a Palestinian-American lawyer, filmmakers, journalists, and others, representing 10 nations, all unarmed civilians.

  • For the past two years, Israel has maintained a tight blockade of all movement into and out of Gaza by land, air, and sea. Children suffer from malnutrition, people with chronic diseases cannot get medicines that they need to survive, and water cannot be purified without access to the power needed to run the purification plant. Since the devastating attack on Gaza this past winter, no cement or other building supplies have been allowed into Gaza to rebuild thousands of demolished homes, although many tons of supplies, donated by the U.S. and other countries, sit at the Rafah and Erez crossings, where they rot in the hot sun.

  • The Spirit of Humanity was the 8th journey of the Free Gaza Movement. When they attempted to deliver medical aid following Israel’s 22-day attack against Gaza this past Winter, Israeli gunboats rammed it three times. That boat was wrecked and is no longer seaworthy.

  • President Obama has acknowledged that the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza devastates Palestinian families and does not serve Israel's security. We agree.
