Tell British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell thank you for protecting the caribou.
On October 16, 2007 the British Columbia government announced it would be protecting another million acres of mountain caribou habitat and increasing protections in existing lands by limiting motorized recreation and mining. This new commitment ensures the protection of more than five million acres (2.2 million hectares) of Inland Temperate Rainforest.
This is a major milestone for caribou and a victory for the Canadian and American activists, organizations, celebrities, consumers, and business leaders that have given so much to the campaign to protect mountain caribou, one of the most endangered mammals in North America and an icon for the magnificent Inland Temperate Rainforest region in eastern British Columbia. Industrial logging has badly damaged the forests that caribou need for their survival, and motorized recreation has driven caribou from their preferred habitats.
Help us say thank you to the BC government on this major milestone and encourage them to move quickly to implement this commitment. Send your message to BC Premier Gordon Campbell and Agriculture and Lands Minister Pat Bell.
