Green Diamond and Bill Brown think that using the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is good for our redwood forests. But, it is just not true. Both Green Diamond and the SFI are bad for our redwood forests.
SFI is funded by the timber industry. SFi has certified as "forest-friendly" more than 98% of the forests they've audited since 2004. Not one audit acknowledges any major issues—such as soil erosion, clearcutting, water quality, or chemical usage—that are known to be problems with large-scale timber operations.
Equally shocking, the SFI label you see most often, the Fiber Sourcing label, requires zero tracking of a product’s forest origins. How can they say it's 'good for forests' (SFI's motto) if they don't even know where it came from?
Tell Green Diamond and Bill Brown to ditch SFI and work with ForestEthics to support intiatives that really protect our forests.
