Health care reform is underway - write to your Senators today!

As Senators across the nation search for solutions to rural America's health care challenges, they need to hear from rural small business owners, family farmers and ranchers, health care practitioners and community members.

They need to hear from you. Will you write today? Here are some points to keep in mind when you write to your Senators.

1. Owner-operated farms, ranches and small businesses dominate the rural economy. Reform must provide options that work for this important part of our rural economy.

2. Competition in the insurance market will help ensure that a few large companies can't set unfair prices for everyone. Encourage your Senators to support a public health insurance option to create real competition in the market.

3. Rural America needs health care reform that provides quality, affordable care to everyone, treats rural providers fairly and creates incentives to keep our doctors, nurses and other providers in our small towns.

4. Expanded wellness and prevention programs are an important part of health care reform. Iowa's Wellness Grant Program, supported by Senator Harkin, is a good example. The program makes grants to communities to support projects that improve public health and wellness.
