Farm Bill Reform: A Time to Choose for Nancy Pelosi

Write online below or call the Speaker's Office at (202) 225-0100.

Leave this message: I urge the Speaker to support farm bill reform that limits payments, invests in our environment and the future of our rural communities and family farms. A farm bill without these things is not worth passing. (Take more talking points from the left.)
After two years of debate, hearings and action alerts, the fundamental questions of farm bill reform remain unsettled. Now Speaker Pelosi has a choice to make. Will she choose a farm bill that supports family farmers, sustainable agriculture and rural communities, or will she choose a bill that supports corporate agriculture and the nation's largest farms?

Urge Speaker Pelosi to insist the next farm bill embraces real reform and invests in the values of family farmers, rural communities and a sustainable future. Tell Speaker Pelosi she MUST insist on three things:

1. Real payment limits reform: Putting real limits on farm program payments benefits family farms and rural America, and saves money that can be invested in the future.
2. Real support for sustainable agriculture: 2 out of 3 conservation program applications are denied due to lack of funding, and increased biofuels production is putting unprecedented stress on our natural resources. Investing $2 billion in the Conservation Security Program will dramatically increase protection for working lands.
3. Real investment in rural development: We must invest in the future of our rural communities by encouraging entrepreneurship, promoting new methods of agriculture, supporting small businesses. But farm bill negotiators are now proposing to dedicate exactly zero dollars to rural development. That's right, nothing. Zilch.

Tell Speaker Pelosi that a farm bill without these basic reforms is simply not worth passing.
