It's shocking, but true, that the recently established Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument are under threat. Despite eight years and 100,000 public comments in support of FULL conservation, the current draft of the Monument Management Plan proposes increased tourism, inappropriate research, and allows military activities with no mitigations. The Northwestern Hawaiian Islands deserve a better plan that does not allow any further human footprint on this sacred, fragile region.
