President Obama, don't allow anti-gay hate at your inauguration
News just broke that the pastor invited to offer the benediction at President Obama's inauguration has a history of vicious anti-gay preaching.
In a sermon available online, Rev. Louie Giglio twisted the words of scripture to claim that gays and lesbians can't enter the Kingdom of God. He also compared homosexuality to alcoholism and overeating, advocated for dangerous "ex-gay" therapies, and called on Christians to fight against social acceptance of gays and lesbians.
The good news is that the sermon appears to be from over a decade ago, so Rev. Giglio has an opportunity to apologize and show how many Christians have learned to love and accept their gay and lesbian neighbors in recent years. But if Rev. Giglio refuses to disavow his hateful words, President Obama must replace him.
Update: Shortly after we launched this petition, Rev. Giglio announced that he's withdrawing from the inauguration program. We're still collecting signatures to remind President Obama that everday Christians want him to ensure that whoever replaces Rev. Giglio won't be a right-wing extremist, but will remind America that God's love doesn't exclude anyone. Consider adding a comment with a suggestion who you'd like to see on the podium!
President Obama, no pastor who continues to teach hatred of gays and lesbians has a place at your inaugural ceremonies. If Rev. Louie Giglio won't apologize for his hateful words, you must replace him with a pastor who'll remind America that God's love doesn't exclude anyone.
