Ask Louisiana Governor to VETO Fluoridation Mandate A bill to impose mandatory fluoridation has slipped through the Louisiana legislature with very few people in Louisiana knowing anything about this draconian move. Please send this message to Governor Jindal to VETO bill SB 312. We are asking him to do this not on the bill’s questionable merits but rather on the basis of his responsibility to protect the principle of fairness, especially when the well-being of the citizens of his state may be at stake. Please get as many of your friends to do the same. We need to flood the Governor with messages from as many people worldwide as possible.  This message will go his Chief of  Staff (Timmy Teepell) and Executive assistant (Sara Olcott) and a legislative aide who assures us the messages will go to the right place. We need to let him know that the whole world is watching him to see if he acts wisely and fairly on this.

November 22, 2009 Subject: Dear Governor Jindal, In the interest of fairness and protecting the possibility that some day you may become a player on the national stage, please veto the bill mandating fluoridation for almost every community in Louisiana (SB 312). This bill will impact every man, woman and child in Louisiana and yet the vast majority of citizens did not know that this bill was being slipped quietly through the legislature. Only now are some citizens finding out about it. There is no way around it: the way this was done was simply not fair to your citizens. In my view, this is precisely the kind of occasion when the person with the ultimate responsibility for protecting the well being of the people in his his or her state, uses the veto. If you don’t protect them, who will? I respectfully request that you recommend the bill be taken up in the next session so that both the public and the legislators are able to hear experts from both sides of this issue. Your veto need not signal your opposition to fluoridation, but rather to see that the principle of fairness be maintained. Governor, with the whole world watching I hope that you have the courage to act wisely on this and use your veto power to ensure that whether mandatory fluoridation eventually goes through or not, it is done fairly and openly and it is seen to be done fairly and openly.
