Protect intact caribou habitat in Ontario's commercial forest
The Ontario government released its long overdue Caribou Conservation Plan in April. While the official comment period has closed for this plan; we still need your help. Please let MNR Minister Donna Cansfield know that protecting the remaining intact habitat of caribou in Ontario is a priority for you, and it must be a priority for her government too.

It doesn't take long, even a sentence or two is fine. Here are some points you may wish to mention in your letter:
So far the government’s actions have failed to stop the extinction clock for caribou because...
- The government has not outlined any actions or timelines by which the Ontario government will actually protect caribou habitat, and
- It allows logging and road building to occur in the remaining intact Boreal Forest. This doesn’t make any sense -- and it's an affront to the spirit and intent of the Endangered Species Act.
Ontario can improve its plan for caribou by...
- immediately halting logging and road building in the remaining intact Boreal Forest;
- determining the total amount of industrial development individual caribou populations can tolerate in their respective ranges before allowing activities to proceed. The recent Federal report on critical habitat for Woodland caribou provides scientific guidance on this issue;
- only allowing industrial development to continue in areas where development thresholds have not been surpassed.
