The Senate is expected to vote on their version of the stimulus package on Tuesday February 10. The House passed their version on January 28th.
The House version is a little better regarding transit. The Senate version is a little better regarding intercity passenger rail. Both versions are disappointing in the percentages of funds for transit and high-speed rail.
If the Senate passes the bill, the conference committee will begin meeting this week. So there is still a chance to get the transit and intercity passenger rail numbers increased.
Rep. Dan Lipinski (D - Illinois) and Rep. Corrine Brown (D - Florida) are circulating a sign-on letter directed towards the conferees. The letter is requesting that infrastructure spending be increased to $85 billion, with $12 billion for transit and $5 billion for intercity passenger rail.
Please ask your representative to sign the letter.
