As a person of faith, I ask you to sign H.R. 2082, the Intelligence Authorization conference report. As you know, Section 327 of H.R. 2082 contains an anti-torture provision that would require all elements of the U.S. intelligence community to abide by the restrictions in the Army Field Manual on Human Intelligence Collector Operations while conducting interrogations. I feel strongly about this legislation because, as a person of faith, I believe that America is great because America is good. It is our values – not just our money or our military might - that make us strong. Our recent debates over whether waterboarding is torture, and over just how badly you can treat someone before it amounts to torture are not a credit to our shared moral standards.
