Sunset Reading at Poets' Walk Park

Walk in spirit with Washington Irving who found inspiration ambling the paths that wind through the sunlit meadows and quiet woodlands at Poets’ Walk Park. Then gather at the gazebo by a small fire, enjoy refreshments and listen to poets read their works while watching the sun set behind the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson River turn to gold.

Please Bring: Clothing appropriate for weather, sturdy, closed toed shoes, (hiking boots or similar), flashlight, water and a snack, but no pets, please. Event will be held rain or shine.

Readers' Bios

Nancy Willard is the author of two novels, Things Invisible To See and Sister Water (both from Knopf), and twelve books of poetry, including In The Salt Marsh. Her most recent book is a collection of essays on writing, The Left-Handed Story (the University of Michigan Press). She has been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts in both fiction and poetry, and her book A Visit To William Blake's Inn: Poems for Innocent and Experienced Travelers, was awarded the Newbery Medal for children's literature. She teaches in the English Department at Vassar College.

Paul Kane has published four collections of poems, most recently Work Life (2007) and A Slant of Light(2008). His work has appeared in The New Republic, Poetry, The Paris Review, The Kenyon Review and elsewhere. He is poetry editor of Antipodes and has received a Fulbright grant and fellowships from the NEH and the Guggenheim He assisted Scenic Hudson in researching information about Poets’ Walk Park, and has also collaborated with the photographer William Clift on the book A Hudson Landscape(1993). Kane teaches at Vassar College.

Dorothy Albertini completed her MFA in Writing at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts in 2008.  She's been a Fellow at the MacDowell Arts Colony.  Her fiction and poetry appear in The Chronogram, Shifter, textsound, Tantalum, Dog Under Porch, Milk Money, and the Bard Papers.  She lives in Kingston, where she writes and teaches at Bard College's satellite campuses in local prisons and co-curates Bard's Roving Reading series.

Joshua Harmon is the author of Scape (poems) and Quinnehtukqut (a novel), which was a finalist for the 2007 Cabell First Novelist Award. His writing has appeared in the Antioch Review, Denver Quarterly, Iowa Review, New England Review, TriQuarterly, and Verse, and he has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, and the Dutchess County Arts Council.

Jane Heidgerd studied at Bard College and received an MFA in Poetry from the Milton Avery School of Fine Arts. She has read extensively in the Hudson Valley and NYC, worked with Scenic Hudson at Poets' Walk Park , and hosted reading a reading series in Tivoli. Her poems have appeared in First Intensity, Hudson Valley Magazine, Bullhead Books, Riverdreams, and Chronogram. She is the author of the chapbook Holy Cow (Deodora), and a memoir entitled The Seas of West Virginia.
