Scenic Hudson | Your Valley. Your Voice. Your Future.

This month's cover story examines the major issues regarding development and preservation.

COVER STORY:
Valley's Leading Regional Magazine
Profiles Scenic Hudson Land Campaign

Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan is featured in a cover story in the area's pre-eminent regional magazine. The Hudson Valley magazine article shows our leader in a familiar setting -- head-to-head with developer Martin Ginsburg, whose sprawling waterfront projects have drawn criticism from us. The piece chronicles the early progress of Scenic Hudson's Quadricentennial initiative to protect the "must save" landscapes along the Hudson and to create family-friendly parks that connect people with the river. What may surprise you is the revelation that Scenic Hudson's work is safeguarding the very assets that are making the valley attractive to a new breed of green entrepreneur, including solar manufacturers, attracted to the region's beauty, parks and quality of life. Read more, including a critique of good and bad development along the river by Jeff Anzevino, who leads our team of planners. More...

VIDEO: "Spirit of the River" Showcases Valley's Beauty - and Urgent Need to Protect It

Our new short film makes a dramatic case for the importance of "Saving the Land That Matters Most."

Earlier this year, Scenic Hudson wrote and produced a video to highlight our Quadricentennial legacy -- Saving the Land That Matters Most. In this five-minute film, actor Oliver Platt explains why it's essential we ramp up efforts to protect the Hudson Valley's magnificent but threatened landscapes. More...

The Black Creek Corridor has been a land-protection priority since 2004.

LAND UPDATE: Protecting Views and Wildlife in Latest Land Victories

The latest victories in our land campaign are in Ulster and Greene counties. These new projects protect stunning views and critical wildlife habitat while providing exciting opportunities to connect people with nature. Since launching the Saving the Land That Matters Most initiative in 2007 as a lasting way of commemorating the Quadricentennial, we've conserved more than 2,200 acres. Visit scenichudson.org for a slide show of our newest properties or see this page for details of some of our earlier success stories.

Where's Reed?

Can you identify where Reed Sparling is hiding this month? Visit this page to find out.

Congratulations to Louisa Finn of High Falls for correctly identifying last month's "Where in the Valley is Reed Sparling?" photo as being at the General Electric Hudson River PCB cleanup site near Fort Edward. See this page for additional details.

For July we have a new challenge. Once again, the first person to respond correctly will win an autographed copy of Reed's book, Hudson Valley Voyage: Through the Seasons, Through the Years. Happy guessing!
