Visit this page to send a letter to your County Legislator supporting the Kathryn Davis Riverwalk Center -- an important economic stimulus project for Westchester County.

Dear Scenic Hudson Member,

I am writing to ask for your active support for The Kathryn Davis RiverWalk Center, a project that will create jobs and economic energy in Westchester County while connecting more people to the majestic Hudson River. Time is of the essence, as the construction season is already passing.

Economic gains
Through the generosity of Tarrytown resident Kathryn Wasserman Davis, the Rockefeller family and the Pew Charitable Trusts, Scenic Hudson has received more than $4 million to transform the historic but dilapidated Kingsland Point bathhouse in Sleepy Hollow into a hub for eco-tourism, environmental education and recreation. This shovel-ready project would create 50 immediate construction jobs and $400,000 in local business revenues. The facility promises to be a destination along the Westchester RiverWalk -- the planned shoreline trail stretching from Yonkers to Peekskill -- and one of only four county-owned parks that accesses the Hudson.

Community benefits
The Kathryn Davis RiverWalk Center not only would provide kayak rentals and be home to a community sailing club, it also would offer classroom space where schoolchildren could conduct firsthand field studies on a nearby park beach. Local school officials envision hundreds of students, from grammar through high school, using the facility each year. In addition, the Beczak Environmental Education Center in Yonkers has expressed interest in conducting classes there. The building also features a rooftop pavilion perfect for picnicking and community gatherings. More information about the bathhouse project is available in this May 20 Journal News op ed and May 17 New York Times article.

Help provide the push this project needs
The generous gifts we've received won't cover the costs of renovating the county-owned building. These costs are sizeable because of years of neglect, deferred maintenance and disuse. County legislators Tom Abinanti and Lois Bronz support a $2.5 million bond to cover the needed additional costs. With weeks of the construction season passing, legislative support is crucial for us to make the go/no go decision on this important project. That's why I'm asking you to contact your legislator right away to let them know this major economic-stimulus opportunity deserves their full support now.

TAKE ACTION: visit this page for a link to your legislator's Web site along with a sample letter that you can submit electronically or send through the mail. Thanks for all that you do.
