Your phone call TODAY can make a big difference for our valley's future.Dear Scenic Hudson Member, I'm asking you to call NYS Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith RIGHT NOW and help secure funding for clean water, healthy local food and the Hudson Valley's majestic landscapes. Earlier today, this New York Times story reported that a hard-won compromise had been reached between the governor and the legislature to protect the state's Environmental Protection Fund by passing the Bigger Better Bottle Bill. As you know, this measure would expand the nickel deposit currently on soda and beer to include bottled water -- a significant source of litter in our parks and on our beaches. It also promises the double benefit of taking nickels from unredeemed containers that are currently kept by the beverage industry and use them to help fund environmental programs, like recycling and farmland preservation. Unfortunately, the deal is in danger of unravelling. Powerful lobbyists representing private corporate interests are dismantling this agreement and threatening the future of the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. It's that simple. We need you to act NOW. Don't hesitate. Call Senator Malcolm Smith at 518 455 2701. Tell him that you, as a voter and a Scenic Hudson member, do not want lawmakers to back down on the environment because of industry pressure. Please urge Sen. Smith to keep his agreement with the Governor and the Legislature to pass the Bottle Bill and fund the Environmental Protection Fund. And please do it right now.
Thanks for all you do,
Ned Sullivan |
