Environmental Funding at Risk on Eve of Quadricentennial
Dear Scenic Hudson Member: News from our state capital this week has dominated the public's attention -- but Scenic Hudson has remained focused, looking out for the Hudson River and advocating in Albany to protect the valley. We're encouraged by the impending swearing in of Lt. Gov. David Paterson and hope you will join us in acknowledging his commitment to the environment and welcoming him as our new governor. Gov. Paterson is well regarded as an effective lawmaker who works across party lines and is sensitive to grassroots concerns. He is applauded by environmentalists for spearheading the state's renewable energy task force. His 20 years of experience in the Legislature -- where he rose to the position of Senate minority leader -- prepares him to lead our state through challenging economic times while addressing the most pressing environmental challenges. But, as with any change in political leadership, we need you to work with us to insure that our region -- its majestic landscapes, waterfronts and parks -- remain front and center on our state government's agenda. Current state budget proposals include a multi-million dollar "sweep" that would take funds OUT of the Environmental Protection Fund, decimating the very source of funds that protect natural landscapes and working farms, upgrade parks and improve the quality of our coastal region for future generations. We need you to speak up for stability and continuity of environmental funding! Timing is crucial -- Our lawmakers need to hear from you
Thanks for all you do, |
