Two More Chances to Speak Up About Massive Development Proposed for Pine Plains
Dear Scenic Hudson Member: At a Feb. 29 hearing, Scenic Hudson's Dr. Michael Klemens presented the Pine Plains Planning Board with a scientific analysis of the impacts of the proposed 951-home Carvel/Durst development. Our study's conclusion -- that a project of this scale and design would cause irreparable fragmentation of over 2,200 acres of rich Hudson Valley open space -- has been widely reported in the media, with articles in the Daily Freeman, the Register Herald and MidHudsonNews.com. Today, we're pleased to report that the Pine Plains Planning board has agreed to add one additional public hearing on the development project -- on Saturday, April 5 -- and has agreed to extend the public comment period to Monday, May 5. The remaining meetings are the best opportunities for the planning board to hear from concerned residents like you, so please try to attend. Besides citing ecological effects from the huge proposed project, you may wish to speak up about other potential issues, such as economic impacts, visual impacts, traffic impacts and impacts to the community's character. Thanks for all you do,
